“I Want You,” Bob Dylan (1966)

when my college boyfriend and i were dating privately — that was the first six months or so— we’d invent loosely clever ways to communicate with each other while we were amongst friends. one was to sit next to each other while studying, feigning furrowed brows of concentration, while we underlined words on our pages until they formed a sentence. “hello dear will you meet me outside?” and “that would be nice to want you” are the ones i remember. another way was to consistently sneak this song onto the jukebox/car radio/stereo, whatever. funny sudden memory.
If you imagine this situation in a Diablo Cody movie, it’s interminable. Because it’s Cassie’s life — Cassie’s real life — it’s delightful.
Unfair? Maybe. I don’t make the rules.
